Determining Air Purifier Ratings
Whether you have allergies and need to remove more allergens from the air, or you just want to know that you are breathing the cleanest possible air, if you have decided to get one of the many air cleaners or air purifiers on the market, you will want to compare your different options and do the research to make sure you get the best air cleaner for you. For this reason, it might be best to come up with your own air purifier ratings based on what factors are the most important to you.
One of the first things you will want to look into is how efficient and safe the various options for home air filters are when you are determining your air purifier ratings. HEPA air filters tend to be among the most efficient, and they are considered to be safe. Other options include ionic filters like the Ionic Breeze air filter, but these can be less effective and might not be as safe due to the process that is used to collect the particles.

After you have looked into the efficiency and safety of the various options for an electronic air cleaner, you should also include information about costs in your air purifier ratings. This includes not just the original purchase price, but also the price of any replacement air filters it will need. Those systems with larger filters and differentiated types of filters tend to need filter replacement less often, and of course the ionic cleaners do not use filters at all. It is best if you can find an air cleaner that has a filter change indicator so you know when a change is needed. Some types of air purifiers and cleaners work better than others at the lower levels. You will want to include in your air purifier ratings some idea of how well the system works, such as how many air turnovers there are in one hour. There should be at least four to six. The highest level tends to be the noisiest, so you should look for one that will do this at one of the lower levels to minimize the noise of the fan.
